Highland Piper

Nora El Naby
Nora El Naby, a senior at Shorecrest High School, began writing for The Highland Piper her sophomore year. Before being involved in the school newspaper, she participated in a writing contest called NaNoWriMo. El Naby said, “One time I dedicated about 8 hours to writing a story for NaNoWriMo.” This year will be her fifth time writing for NaNoWriMo. She enjoys writing and is currently working on two different books, “I adore writing and reading,” she said. Her favorite genre is fantasy, specifically relating to the subject of “revolutions and the spirit of the nation.” She hopes to see that in herself as well. She describes herself as someone “inclined to detail.” She is a welcoming, kind person, and enjoys her friends. As a writer, El Naby creates a lot of friends and enjoys talking to them about new ideas and book themes. When asked, what type of "fantastical or magical power” she would like to have, she replied, “I would like the power to see the future.” She explained, “Even if for only a few minutes of time, I would go out of my way to help people.” She further explained saying, “Just small acts of kindness, like if someone was going to trip and fall, and scatter their books everywhere, even if it was on the third floor, I would try to get to the third floor to help them." She added, “Or even if my friend was going to leave their coffee at home one day, I’d try to bring it to them.”
